The Little Toot

Arghhhhh! The kiddos set sail Sunday on a high seas adventure...otherwise known as a leisurely boat ride around the Santa Barbara Harbor on The Little Toot. A third birthday, pirates was the theme, and costumes were optional (so of course the munchkins dressed up).

Keller got to be the captain.

Vera was the first mate, with her missing tooth completing the look.

Both of the kids got to drive the boat.

This was a Daddy adventure...there was no way that I was taking my almost 9 months pregnant body onto a boat that had no bathroom.

Top Teeth Gone

The Bean Table

On one of our many Costco runs, J and I thought a water table would be an excellent idea for the kiddos to play with in the backyard. We shortly found out that not only is the table HUGE in our 8x12 patio area, but it quickly became filthy and not much fun to use as a water table.

Brainstorm, I can think of something fun to do with it in the house. I am shaking my head at my naivete. The first trial was rice. Do you want to know how much rice I have cleaned up in the last two months? My vacuum has threatened to disown me and I fear that I am going to find rice particles for the next ten years. I finally called it quits after having to vacuum their room every darn day. Out went the rice and in went the beans!

Beans! I am undecided. Yep, still a mess, although much easier to clean up by hand. The downside, you can't vacuum them (for some odd reason). They just won't be sucked up. I am thinking they are gone in a month. On the day I took the above picture, I did get a full hour of three kiddos playing quietly with the beans, that has to be worth something.

What next?

Our Little Trooper

The other big event of the 4th of July weekend was Vera's first stay in the hospital. The most important part of this whole story is that Vera is doing great and her wound has almost healed completely.

On Saturday night, July 2, Vera was walking/running by our neighbors yard and tripped over one of their decorative garden lights. It had a small spike on top which went into her throat. At the time, we thought she had merely scratched her throat, but after a CT and overnight stay in the hospital, we realized how lucky our little lady got. Although it basically stabbed her, it missed both major arteries in the neck and just slightly pierced the airway.

Most of these were taken when J thought that a few stitches and some Tylenol were all that Vera needed.

No complaints as an IV was put in her arm and her blood was drawn.

The nurses and staff at the hospital were amazing during Vera's stay. Also, they had a blanket and two stuffed animals for her when she woke up in the morning. She was checked into her room at midnight and was sound asleep.

Our ER/hospital visit for the next 20 years = check! Now, both children are required to stay safe and out of danger.

Keller's Roaring Good Birthday Party

Keller is 3!

Not a cake, but my Rice Krispie Dinosaur Fossil Bones were yummy. The dirt was made out of Trader Joe's Joe-Joe's.

It takes lots and lots of concentration to get that third finger to join the other two.

J had fun at the Dinosaur Dig chasing the kiddos around with the T-Rex, not sure that every kid was entirely comfortable with the orange fellow.

That vertical, it must have been inherited from J's side, definitely not taking after Mama in that regard. If she had, she would have barely cleared the seaweed.

My adorable little 3-year-old dinosaur hunter!

Summer, Summer, Summertime!

I had to post this picture. Dude, my belly looks weird.
