Golden Spike National Historic Site almost didn't happen for this family. It was a bit out of the way and the time frame was a squeeze, but we made it! Part of the reason we wanted to take this trip was to show the kiddos historical sites of importance and where the intercontinental railroad was completed was important.
On weekends, they have re-enactments of the driving of the spike. I really, really wish we could have seen that, but it wasn't meant to be this trip. Aka, we were there on a Wednesday.
Although not the originals (which were sold as scrap metal!!!), the two trains have been recreated.
