Day 3: Canyon Overlook Trail

First, a kind of random picture of the mouth of a tunnel. BUT, the cool fact is that the tunnel was constructed in 1930 and is 1.1 miles long. It is crazy long. So long that at intervals throughout they have basically cut windows into the mountain...air holes?

I let J choose the hike for the afternoon. Needless to say, he might not get another turn. He chose the Canyon Overlook Trail, which is described in the guidebook as "Long drop-offs, mostly fenced. Rocky and uneven trail ends at viewpoint of Pine Creek Canyon and lower Zion Canyon." Now, I will say that we weren't ever in danger, but if our children didn't listen well it would have been another story. Oh, and we carried Gus the entire way in arms. That might not have been the smartest decision.

Gorgeous climb with an amazing view at the end. Thankfully, a very well constructed fence was also present at the viewpoint, otherwise I might have had a heart attack. I still might have had a minor one and was "That Mom" yelling at her kids to stay a foot away from the fence and within five feet of me at all times. I am very specific when I get nervous. Again, Gus never left either my or J's arms.

One of the crazier aspects of the climb was this bridge. We were very proud of our kiddos for making the climb, especially with both Vera and I displaying our nerves about the climb over and over again.

Canyon Overlook Trail is 1.0 miles round-trip.
